cting I / Theatre Arts Grade Level : 9-12

Here is where everything starts!! An active class that covers all the aspects of theatre you need to know to get involved and do more! Students will learn to tell stories, perform monologues, duet scenes and play improv comedy games in the class. Various acting techniques and character development will be studied as well as full-length plays and movies. A field trip is usually is offered as part of this class to see a professional performance. Get started here.

Acting II Grade Level : 10-12
Semester Prerequisite: Acting I
Once your feet are wet we dive in head first with this class. More performance and plays are tackled with monologues, scenes and presentations. We also introduce pain and death to the stage with stage combat action. Write and direct your own sword work and hand-to-hand combat scenes! Learn the secrets to acting and making it all look real!
Acting III Grade Level: 10-12
Semester Prerequisite: Acting I and II or teacher approval
A slightly experimental upper-level acting class in which skit / play writing and directing will be the focus. Unique styles of performance such as 30 plays in 60 minutes are often developed and performed. We will also explore some acting philosophy and read plays…..advanced-only acting!!
Technical Theater Grade Level 9-12
Semester Prerequisite: none
Power tools, bright lights and loud music. That is just the beginning of what to expect in Tech Theatre class. We design sets and then build them, learn to use expensive power tools and work to keep the theatre functioning on a daily basis. Be ready to be out of your seats on most days working hard and having a good time doing it.

Advanced Technical Theater Grade Level 10-12
Semester Prerequisite: Technical Theatre
Advanced Technical Theater is a class which requires an active, creative student willing to work at a variety of tasks in a hands-on environment. Lighting, sound, set design, costumes, and other aspects of theatre craft are taught. The construction and design created by students in this class are on display in Chatfield Theatre productions. Safety and responsibility are essential elements of this class. The ability to work independently and without constant supervision is critical to students' success. Some written work is also required.

Play Production (Experimental Theatre) Grade Level 10-12
Fall Semester Only Prerequisite: Acting I / Theatre Arts
You will help to decide what exactly we learn in this class!! In the past we have performed one act plays, melodramas and children’s theatre…what will it be this year? This a class that works towards a performance using time in class to get there. You can perform on stage with much less after school practice required!! Great class to test the waters and get started acting for a audience!!

►Improv the class where that’s all we do….Improvisational Theatre! You will be part of a dedicated group of actors who get the chance to perform at the middle schools as well as on Chatfield’s very own stage (Auditions in March or April for the following year)
►Play Production B (full length)- Audition to get a role in our next Fall show…past shows include David and Lisa, The Crucible, Our Town and A Christmas Carol!!
(Auditions are in February….monologues…then cold readings)
